Today was a quiet Sunday. The boys woke up once again filled with energy and any lingering signs of illness had faded with the sleep they had just awoken from. Xander came bounding into the kitchen with a huge grin. "Guess who turns five tomorrow!" I continued making breakfast with a teasing gin I said. "Inara?" "No, mommmm!" he said smiling with the realization I was teasing him. I continued, "Really thought for sure Inara was turning five tomorrow. I must be pretty mixed up." He was giggling by this point. " I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with Mander." I wrapped him in a big hug. "No way my Xander Boo is turning five tomorrow." He squeezed me tight and finished with "I am, mom. I am becoming a man."
The morning conversation put me light hearted for church. I made sure we had the cupcakes ready to go. Xander was bouncing through the house thrilled at his good fortune of sickness passed. I made him snap a picture holding the cupcakes then we were out the door.
When we made it home the kids shared all the pictures they had made. I make it a point to take pictures of all the drawings and art projects. That way if the treasure boxes get full it becomes much easier to pick and choose the ones that need recycled. We have them forever stored on an external drive. Plus the art is always matched to the right kid since we have ownership proof through the pictures.
Tomorrow starts another busy week of appointments. I'm praying for no emergencies like last week brought. I was noticing my calendar for June was booked already, stocked full of appointment after appointment. Some have been sitting on my June calendar for a good four months. This is even before Ronan's two year check-up. His check ups always bring up new issues and he gains at least one more specialist and a dozen new appointments. Seeing as his check-up is the first part of June and the June calendar is filled I think we're in for a never stopping month.
But I'm going to think of June when June arrives. For now thoughts of a little boy turning five encompass my thoughts. After all he's becoming a man, only all too quickly.
